candle_holderVersha Vohra’s ‘The Yellow Door’, quite literally, opens a small world of opportunity to the most exquisite range of home accessories

Production : Benoy Sebastian

Aspectrum of exclusive and unique products, carefully designed and handcrafted in the small towns of our country, make up the  collection of products on offer through The Yellow Door. “Mine is a single store and does not compare volumes with existing brands. However, I feel an obligation to rural craftsmen and want to preserve their indelible style,” says Versha Vohra, proprietor, when we ask her about her sourcing. The use of colour and unique hand painted antique finishes adds another dimension to the products. The range is exhaustive and the mix eclectic. The store has a collection of mirrors, lamps, candle stands, wall art, photo frames, furniture and lots more. And just as interesting is the packaging. “All our furniture is simple, with and straight lines – designs that can blend with any kind of setting.”

The Lady Behind the Brand
Versha Vohra is a self-made woman entrepreneur and the promoter of The Yellow Door. “I like beautiful things, and can’t sit idle,” she says. Through The Yellow Door she displays an eclectic mix of metals and wood; shadows and light. The entire showcase is a reflection of ingenuity, excellence and aesthetics. The price range comes as a pleasant surprise – value for money spent is what you’re heading for at this store (prices starts at Rs. 250 and go up to Rs.22,500.)

Expansion Plans
“We have one small outlet in Dehradun. We are in the process of starting a store in Goa. Our products sell in Studio 11 in Jabalpur. Recently, we have ventured into corporate gifting,” says Versha.

The Materials
All the products are simple, yet inviting. The materials used include iron, glass, brass, aluminium, wood, stainless steel and leather. Beautiful hand painted antique finishes are given to the iron and wood. Versha loves to work with mango and shesham wood. As far as wooden products are concerned, a lot of experimentation goes into the making. “Our most popular finish is our scratch finish in dark brown colour, which we do in shelves, mirrors, frames and tables. All our
materials for the products are sourced from Moradabad, Sahranpur, Jaipur and Jodhpur. And our methods of production are environment friendly.”
